Some updates

It's been a busy time, here at TA. New staffers, new ideas, and new innovations abound. There's a lot going on. This post will attempt to cover that.

Overhaul

At the end of the month, the CMP server and some other parts of TA are undergoing a major overhaul. Some of the changes you can expect to see are as follows..

TF2 is back

This is a short announcement to let everyone know that I've fixed Sourcemod and that the TF2 server is now in full operation again.

Now go blow stuff up!

..huh?

Lately I've noticed some people keep trying to connect to the test server. I've mentioned this before, but I'm going to lay it out again below.

  • The test server is not a public server. It's used by us to test new features and changes.
  • The creative server is NOT at archivesmc.com - it's at cmp.archivesmc.com
  • The survival server is NOT at archivesmc.com - it's at smp.archivesmc.com
  • The hat server is NOT at archivesmc.com - it's at hat.archivesmc.com
  • The tf2 server is NOT at archivesmc.com - it's at tf2.archivesmc.com
  • The test server IS at archivesmc.com - but use test.archivesmc.com (provided you have access)

I've set up a whitelist message on Test - please heed it and play on one of the production servers.

TF2 server downtime

Edits
I've managed to get a /vanilla/ server running. That's it so far, though.
The server updates automatically again. I'll try updating sourcemod soon.
Sourcemod works again! \o/

ValvE has finally decided to drop the HLDS update tool. Hurrahs all around.

..or not. We're stuck using the horrifically bad SteamCMD tool. As of this post it's refusing to update the server, so I've got a lot of things to look into.
That means that the TF2 server will be down for a little while.

If anyone has any ideas how the hell this thing works, please let me know.
And don't link me to the wiki page with the instructions for setting up a server with it. I've read that already.

Thanks, and apologies for the inconvenience.

Granbury Texas

Folks,
Mother Nature is a mean woman. And last night just goes as a reminder.

The National Weather Service announced Thursday morning the Granbury tornado is estimated at an EF-4 strength - the second strongest designation for a tornado. EF-4's have winds between 166 and 200 miles per hour.

The storm that produced this harbinger of The Lady also produced hail the size of grapefruits.

Let's think about that a minute.

Ice chunks, falling from the sky, weighing in at roughly 2-2.5 lbs EACH.

GAME ON

In roughly an hour, the server-wide eval stop will be lifted.

Staff are on hand to do evaluations at their discretion. HOWEVER! Spamming and general assaulting of the staff will result in a 24hour temp ban. If you can't accept, "Wait your turn." Or, "Not at the moment." or any constructive criticism, then I highly advise holding your breath and waiting.

And Yes. I will be available. And No, we won't be taking any BS.

PAUSE BUTTON!

Every once in a while, I have to come back and remind players that the staff are players too. And that's usually because I've been pulled aside by a frantic staffer saying, "I DUNNO WHAT TO DO!"

It's been noticed that the player base has grown pushy. And well... I'm pushing back.

Starting now, Thursday, May 9, 2013, 00:00am CST, I'm placing a freeze on all evaluations for 7 days. Seven FULL days.

Terraria and FTB

This is a formal announcement to say that the Terraria server has been dropped (although I doubt anyone cares since nobody plays there). The Feed the Beast server has also been dropped (again, nobody plays there, though that's mostly because it's a pain to update it every thursday).

Hopefully this will free up some resources that the other servers can use, though.

The subforums and entries on the play page have also been removed.

Does anyone play Terraria?

As some of you may know, The Archives also runs a Terraria server - however there's a complete lack of people who want to play there.

So, answer me this: Does anyone actually play Terraria?

If not, I'm considering shutting down the server. Please use this forum post to comment: http://archivesmc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=91

1.5.2 is out..

..but lucky for you, we've already updated (30 mins after release).

Have fun on the servers!
